HAUNTED FUTURES

5 - 10 September 2025

Location: Salon Gallery, Margate

Haunted Futures, is the first major in-depth analysis of the phenomena described by dyzlocation.

A long time ago, human beings had the power and the knowledge to travel in time and space at will. We partially lost that knowledge, but artefacts used by our ancestors still exist, as well as the methods for interdimensional travel already introduced on this website.

dyzlocation as an organisation has already worked to uncover these methods, to investigate these phenomena and the unexplained side-effects which can result – such as an obsession with nostalgia, recurring deja vu and visits from otherworldly beings.

The Haunted Futures field investigation addresses the fragility of reality, time and place, and how disorienting it can be when established facts, values and certainties begin to break apart. This can be typified by the breakdown of physical locations when they are re-developed or ‘regenerated’. Once familiar public areas become partitioned and privatised, the local population becomes excluded and nomadic.

We can also see this in psychological and physical identity; bodies change, mental states evolve and/or break down. National and international politics, religious beliefs and spiritual affiliations are further examples of states of being, which when in flux, can result in isolation, conflict and even epiphany.

During these transitional states, human beings often experience a shift in their understanding of their place in the universe, whether scientific, historical or personal.

Haunted Futures took the form of an exhibition spanning five days. During this time, dyzlocation presented three chronometric playbacks which can be viewed below.

It is recommended that the participant make use of good quality, noise-cancelling headphones and view these playbacks in a dimly-lit space.

THE THEORY OF TIME

Time is a physical structure. The lower an experiencer goes into the sub-temporal architecture, the further they travel into the past.

The sub-temporal architecture, which is accessed through a subcelestial fissure, disintegrates further at each deeper level. Some structures remain, however; primarily those imbued with with ritualistic significance and inner religious, spiritual or social patterns.

At the deepest levels, one can ‘hitch a ride’ on the fragments of the architecture and intersect with remnants of extra-celestial environments, which undergo a similar process. Proceeding upwards will then allow access to these realms.

TEMPORAL INCURSION

The subtype known as 78/D communicate by transmitting their thoughts onto electromagnetic materials. This is known as ‘chronometric recording’. Most commonly, they use analogue audio/visual magnetic tape, photographic film stock and older data storage systems. They are unable to communicate via newer data storage methods, such as solid-state drives.

A translation matrix is required to convert the 78/D language into anthropocene. This method was developed using the Newgate Gap petroglyph, discovered in 1993.

The 78/D subtypes are often abstract in their communication, though they are seemingly benevolent. Any adjacent phenomena, such as cognitive displacement, appears to be unintentional.

FUTURE HAUNTERS

The analogue computer arcade game named FUTURE HAUNTERS was discovered in 1989. Its origins, including the programmer, designer and manufacturer are undetermined. The whereabouts of the original EPROM chips are currently unknown.

Reports of players experiencing extreme cognitive displacement and temporal dislocation led to the subsequent withdrawal of the game.

Initially thought to be a work of fiction, it has been suggested that the FUTURE HAUNTERS represents an early attempt at communication by the 78/D subtypes.

The abridged playthrough presented here has been edited to minimise any adjacent phenomena, though some viewers may experience mild cognitive displacement.
