About dyzlocation

Everything you read on this website is part of the ongoing creative project which I call dyzlocation. Aside from this page, everything else is to be considered as being ‘in-universe’ and comprising part of the intentionally fractured narrative.

dyzlocation (the ‘d’ is lower case to emphasise the rhizomatic structure of the project) concerns an investigation into the following themes:

Time travel. Interdimensional portals. Hauntings. Non-terrestrial intelligences. Archaeology. Local history. Post-structuralism. Meta-narratives. Psychological, geographical and metaphysical anomalies.

Some of the words I have used there are already pregnant with meaning, which is why you will rarely see them used on dyzlocation. I wish to avoid specifying a genre or driving my viewers to an agenda. Instead, I have taken a phenomenological approach, without agenda or bias, while still maintaining an exciting narrative.

I am averse to using loaded language, so I have created analogous terminology to create a sense of unfamiliarity. I want to get you away from thinking ‘This is science fiction’ or ‘That’s about ghost sightings’.

For example, instead of ‘time travel’, I call it Temporal Excursion. ‘Deja-vu’ is referred to as Cognitive Displacement.

The story of dyzlocation currently takes the form of a series of animations, with supplementary field notes, analyses and ephemera. I you can make it to one of my exhibitions, you will encounter far more than I could put on this website - physical, immersive spaces presented as dyzlocation investigations. Soon, I will be producing an audio drama series, likely to begin in 2026.

Much of the story takes place in the Isle of Thanet, a real peninsula in Kent, Britain. The area is rich in anthropological and geographical history, with a contemporary atmosphere of mysticism, creative activity and liminality. I should know: I live here.

That said, nothing on this website should be taken as a literal indication of the area and its people, who have graciously welcomed me since I first moved here. dyzlocation is a work of fiction, but bear in mind that folklore and mythology often reflect real life. In my mind, there is no difference.

dyzlocation’s fractured and incomplete narrative is a feature, not a bug. I encourage you to investigate this website in the same way dyzlocation is investigating the themes contain within it. Be on the lookout for clues, puzzles, external links and secret pages which will enlighten and, hopefully, entertain you.

My name is Dana Fox. I am the sole creator of dyzlocation. I hope you enjoy the story.
